      A ROAD diversion will be in place while Noosa Council undertakes the $2.1 million upgrade of the Mary River Road bridge near Cooroy's Apex Park. Contractors will be creating a new concrete structure with a proposed 100-year life span. The council has secured funding from the Australian Government's Bridges Renewal Program to help build the bridge, which will include upgrades such as dedicated cycle lanes beside the two vehicle lanes, an off-road shared pathway and the removal of the current load limit.       Pardon trial adjourned until August

      NOOSA Councillor Frank Pardon has told media waiting outside Maroochydore District Court that he was "looking forward to his day in court”. The trial of the councillor, who is facing six charges of indecent treatment of a child under 16, has been delayed because new information has been received by the court. Frank James Pardon was charged in April with the offences which allegedly occurred in the mid-1990s prior to his election to the Noosa Council in 1997.

      COOROY'S new Chamber of Commerce board and members were treated to a presentation by Seqwater on the proposed Lake Macdonald dam upgrade on Tuesday. Seqwater staff explained the timetable and reasons for the upgrade, including the threat from earthquakes that could destabilise the earthen walls near the spillway, described as "similar to Holland's dyke walls”, necessitating the work. Surrounding regions have experienced four minor quakes in the last six years.
